Performs diagnostic medical radiographic procedures and activities related to radiography of patients in accordance with departmental protocols. Performs all procedures which are offered by the department following exam protocols on neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Provides direct patient care that ensures quality, efficiency and well-being of each patient. Collaborates with members of the health care team to promote total patient care. Assistant clinic duties include, but are not limited to; taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and administering medications as directed by physician. Performs CLIA wave test as directed by the RN or Provider.


  • Radiographer
    Consistently demonstrates competence in performing all diagnostic radiology procedures offered by the department. This includes trauma, surgery, fluoroscopy and diagnostic procedures. Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the use of all standard diagnostic radiology equipment. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy.
  • Obtains and examines the requisition to ensure an adequate indication for procedure is documented to correlate with the radiology examination to be performed; regularly consults with others as necessary to verify
    appropriate procedure to be completed.
  • Thoroughly explains the procedure in order to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety; explains, instructs and communicates to patient the nature of the radiology procedure. Always reports any changes in the patient's condition or behavior to the appropriate physician or nursing personnel.
  • Addresses patient care using two patient identifiers, safely administers medications (i.e. correct labeling), washes hands in accordance with CDC guidelines, and follows the Universal Protocol Policy. Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of medication action (contrast, barium), side effects and protocols for use.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and others; wears protective apparel when necessary and properly shields patients; Wears radiation badge at all times in department.
  • Prepares examination for interpretation by the radiologist to include exam QA, reviewing of study, scanning of appropriate documents, retrieving of prior studies and sending to PACS. Transports patients safely to and from the Radiology department; Informs the nurses station when a patient has left and returned; Brings patient chart to Radiology with all transports.

Medical Assistant

  • Organizes & prioritizes care of multiple patients with varying level of acuity in a timely and efficient manner. Demonstrates the ability to perform work in an accurate and timely manner in periods of crisis and emergency situations.
  • Uses supplies and equipment within safe parameters. Ensures equipment is functioning properly before use. Reports equipment malfunction when necessary. Maintains order and cleanliness in the radiology suite after use. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand at all times.

Charges exam, supplies and medications accurately at the time of use.

Professional Development/Education

  • Maintains, develops and updates Radiographer skills to implement ideal patient care.
  • Assists, teaches and answers questions for colleagues. Presents self as a resource at the unit and organizational level. Mentors new staff.
  • Conveys a strong sense of advocacy and support for staff and co-workers.
  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assist others as requested; regularly assists in other areas of the department such as reception duties, clerical duties, and other assignments as requested. Uses time for department advantage.
  • Obtains, renews and keeps required licensure and certifications current. Assumes responsibility for providing HR and Dept. Director copies of new licensure and certifications.
  • Rotates on all shifts as needed and regularly performs duties on an on-call basis.
  • Self-evaluates professional knowledge and actively seeks out educational opportunities for development.
  • Attends and participates in committees or special projects at the unit and organizational level.
  • Completes organization and unit specific competencies in a timely manner.


Minimum Work Experience
Required: Good phone etiquette required.
Preferred: Experience in trauma preferred. Good interpersonal and customer service skills preferred.

Required Licenses
ARRT Registry examination in Radiography or board eligible and Wyoming Licensure. Registration with the ARRT must be completed within 6 months of hire date. CPR certification required.


Working Conditions
Radiation exposure, Clinic environment. Must be on-site at the SJMC Campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements
80% of shift standing and walking. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to lift 10 pounds overhead. Intermittent sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, overhead lifting, computer use.
