Performs a variety of food service duties in the area of patient and resident meals, especially room service. Includes direct patient contact, answering the phone, taking room service orders, assembling patient trays, expediting orders, stocking tray assembly area and delivering meals and snacks to patients and residents. Adheres to and practices the SJMC Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.

DUTIES

Meal Service and Delivery

1. Demonstrates ability to use Digital Dining computer. Able to accurately enter patients name, room number diet order and meal requests both timely and correctly. Also able to enter sales in the cafeteria using digital dining, cross trains as a cashier.

2. Answers room service calls professionally and with good customer service skills. Assists patients with their meal orders politely and professionally. Following established standards for phone etiquette

3. Monitors meal ticker printer and fills orders upon receipt, places appropriate items on tray in a timely ad efficient manner. Assures all items on the tray are correct and delivers trays in a timely manner waiting for no more that 5 trays or 10 minutes.

4. Delivers meal trays to patients rooms in a friendly and professional manner. Assists patients with set up and assures that patients have everything they need before leaving the room. Follows established standards for meal delivery and good hand washing.

5. able to print the diet report from Paragon prior to each meal and monitors the printer for all diet changes. Updates diet sheet with all patient admissions, transfers with diet changes and discharges correctly upon receipt. Marks diet sheet when patient orders to assure we know who has ordered the meal..

Food Preparation

1. Prepares all salads, fruit and desserts for room service, following recipes and picture board to assure consistency in products. Assures freshness of products. Label and dates correctly everything.

2. Assures area is well stocked at all times and ready for meal service. Examples: trays are matted, prep is done, beverages, cups and condiments are stocked. Assures there are salads, puddings, fruit, Jell-O, desserts etc for the next meal. If cashier, cafeteria is stocked and ready.

3. Prepares after hours box dinners, outpatient requisitions daily. Stocks patient care areas on Mon. Wednesday and Fridays. C hecks areas to be sure all outdated products are removed and restocked

4. Able to stock salad bar for the cafeteria, assuring proper rotation of product (FI-FO), providing a wide variety of product, including variety in colors, consistency to assure high quality salad bar.

5. Collects al candlelight dinner requests, sets up cold food items and assures meals are delivered to OB at appropriate time.

Misc.

1. Demonstrates an understanding and consistency for modified diets and passes diet exam annually. Accurately assists patients on a special diet with their menus. Offering appropriate suggestions and substitutions as necessary.

2. Maintains, develops and updates skills to implement ideal service.

3. Assists other areas of meal service as needed, working in a team-oriented and collaborative manner to provide highest quality meals possible.

4. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Keeps prep fridge clean. C hecks labels and dates.

5. Demonstrates ability to enter cash sales into digital dining accurately. Able to collect money, make change enter charges correctly and accurately. Bank is balanced at end of shift

QUALIFICATIONS

One year experience with hospital or hospitality food service preferred. Ability to interface with all hospital personnel and patients in a positive and team-oriented manner. Good communication, interpersonal, phone and customer service skills. Ability to adjust to fluctuating job demands, meet assigned deadlines and work independently. Must be detail oriented and have ability to multi-task. Basic computer skills.
