PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the supervision and/or direction of the OB nursing staff/ OB Manager provides age & developmentally appropriate direct clinical care to the preemie, neonate, infant, adolescent and adult patient populations. Provides care with a focus on patient safety. Assesses supplies levels, orders and restocks as necessary. Answers phones and call lights professionally. Assembles, disassembles patient charts. Utilizes the Paragon system to initiate physician orders. Assists nursing in the care of obstetrical and newborn patients according to the Obstetrics Scope of Service. Adheres to and practices the SJMC Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.

REPORTS TO:

OB Manager & Clinical Coordinator

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

Patients, families, visitors, hospital employees, physicians, community agencies and vendors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Three bed LDRP with five swing rooms. Level one nursery. Rapidly changing census and patient acuity. Frequent stressful situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, computer and phone use. Irregular meals/lunch breaks. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and possess the ability to lift, push, pull and move patients, equipment and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Wyoming CNA certification, current CPR/BLS required at time of hire. NRP preferred, or a SJMC CNA newborn resuscitation class done within 6 months of hire. Must be able to read and write English, understand basic hospital/medical terminology and simple math. Good communication, interpersonal, phone and customer service skills. Basic computer skills.
