Responsible for providing and ensuring a clean environment for the Surgical Services Department. Includes cleaning of the OPS suites and terminal cleaning of suites as assigned as well as other assigned cleaning areas. Responsible for the cleaning, processing and sterilizing of all supplies in the OPS. Assists with patient transport
and positioning as requested. Responsible for accurate implant charges in Pyxis. Performs duties according to the Scope of Service for Surgical Services. Practices the SJMC Corporate Compliance program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.


Housekeeping Duties
1. Utilizes and maintains appropriate cleaning supplies for disinfection: cleaning agents, trash bags, mop heads, etc.
2. Follows designated cleaning schedule of daily, weekly, and monthly duties. Communicates with OR UC status of cleaning schedule each week.
3. Utilizes appropriate PPE when ever possibility of exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Follows principles of medical and surgical asepsis: hand washing, surgical attire, and restrictive traffic patterns.
4. Manages disposal of sharps and refuse to ensure personal safety, and reports any accidental exposures according to facility policy.
5. Assists with room turnover to facilitate completion of surgical procedures: responds to over-head pages, communicates with surgery charge nurse, returns equipment to designated storage area, and follows cleaning protocols.
6. Participates in quality performance objectives monthly with OR UC.
7. Assists with transport of patients by clinical personal as requested. Acts as a runner for staff as requested.

OPS Housekeeping Duties
1. Clean windows in Patient care areas.
2. Cleans baseboards.
3. Buff Floors
4. Wipe ceiling Grates.
5. Wipe down Pyxis machine including top.
6. Wipe down shelves in offices and nurses station.
7. Clean under all office and other equipment (computers, coffee pot).
8. Wipe all pediatric decorations in the isolation rooms.
9. Wipe down all walls in the Scope Room.
10. Clean top of cabinets in OPS, Scope & Minor Rooms, Pre-Op and Front Office.

Required Skills

Communicates effectively and professionally. Performs and adapts to frequently changing environment and departmental needs. Must be able to work quickly, accurately and efficiently. Basic computer skills required. Good interpersonal and customer services skills.

Working Conditions
Hospital surgery suites. Stressful situations, frequent interruption, irregular hours, exposure to high temperatures from autoclaves, crowded conditions, exposure to fumes and chemicals. Irregular meals and breaks. Must be on-site at the SJMC Campus to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to bend, kneel, and raise arms above shoulder level. Must be able to push and pull essential housekeeping, laundry and floor equipment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be on feet standing or walking 90% of shift.
