full time, 12 hr night shift

Under the supervision and/or direction of the RN Long Term Charge or the Charge Nurse provides age and developmentally appropriate direct clinical care to medical, surgical, psych and orthopedic patients of all ages. Delivers patient care according to the Scope of Service for PCU. Adheres to and practices the SJMC Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.


Patient Care Activities
1. Assists in preparing patient room, bed, environment for patient admission, returning from surgery, transfer or emergency patient. Initiates getting weight and vital signs.
2. Accompanies patient in the admission, transfer and discharges procedures as appropriate.
3.Provides AM care (bed bath if needed, changing of bed linens, changing gown, oral care, washing hands( and evening care (back rubs, straightening bed linen, oral care) and other personal care as needed throughout the shift.
4. Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximerty, weight, height and I and O measurements as directed.
5. Assists with preoperative and postoperative care, I.e., positioning, lifting and turning patient, using proper body mechanics, applying equipment and ambulating patients as directed.
6. Prepares patients for meals, picks up food trays, assists or feeds patients as necessary. Instructs and assists with room service ordering.
7.Uses universal precautions on all patients and specific isolation precautions as needed.
8. Provides post-mortem care as directed by RN.
9. Makes rounds on patients, anticipates needs and answers patient call lights and paging in a timely manner.
10. Maintains, develops and updates skills to implement ideal care and service.

Other Responsibilities
1. Appropriately handles and cares for patients' personal property (prosthetic devices, hearing aids, dentures, clothing, contact lenses) from admission to discharge.
2. Safely transports patients as directed.
3. Collects specimens and appropriately transports to proper areas as directed.
4. Reports any observed changes in patient condition/behavior to the patients primary RN or Charge Nurse in a timely manner.
5. Assists in maintaining safe and clean environment by reporting malfunctioning equipment and other problems to management. Cleans equipment as assigned and keeps hallways clear.
6. Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with patients, visitors, and co-workers while assuring confidentiality of patient information.
7. Keeps C.N.A. and CPR certifications current and in Human Resources.


Wyoming CNA Certificate required at time of hire. Current CPR required at time of hire. Effective and professional communication skills. Good customer service skills preferred.
